Light and ventilation are the key features of this plantation-style home that has been designed as a series of activity nodes. Its designer Chris Van Dyke, a prominent Cairns architect, says "the entry node is a separate pavilion, reached by a bridge from the front entry of the garage and surrounded by a moat. This promotes a feeling of safety and a transition from the outside world. The next node entered into is the dining and kitchen area".

A central courtyard area accesses the study, laundry, dining and lounge, and lets in the light and breezes. The lounge area is accessed on a 45 degree angle from the kitchen with a verandah to the south. This area is 2 storey with a void above letting in lots of natural light.

The master bedroom is also on this level with views to the pool and trees beyond. It features an island wall for the bed with a walk-in robe behind and a bath with views to the forest. Upstairs a bridge over the void accesses two bedrooms that are nestled in the tree canopy with their own private decks.

The pool is in the courtyard between the master bedroom and verandah and culminates in a feature water wall which is framed by the backdrop of the forest beyond.

The design features efficient solar design with generous 900mm overhangs, louvres and bi-folding doors for cross ventilation, well insulated roofs and the best possible orientation of rooms.
